Introduction

Over one hundred years ago European missionaries brought the Good News about Jesus Christ to the African continent. As a result of these efforts the living faith has brought fruits back to Europe.

Introducing ourselves

  • "We are the Living Sound, living for Jesus, the army of the Living GOD."

  • The Living Sound Gospel Singers, members of the local "The Redeemed of the Lord Evangelistic Church" in Kampala Makarere, introduce themselves with this song.
  • The former underground churches, oppressed and persecuted during Idi Amin's regime, are growing fast and many new churches are found through active mission work in Uganda. During the last 25 years Redeemed Church was involved in the foundation of more than 60 new churches. The Living Sound Gospel Singers support these evangelistic ministries.
  • Steven Ogwang founded the choir in 1980 and is leading the group since than. He is a qualified musician, actor and teacher, but is also working as an evangelist, song writer, sound technician, artist and project manager. For some years he was TV host in Ugandan Christian channels. In 1983 Steven was elected "Best Actor of Uganda" by the National Theatre in Kampala.
  • The about 30 members of the Living Sound Gospel Singers live in the capital city Kampala, but they originate from different tribes and districts of Uganda. The ministry in the choir is volontary.
  • Our mission outreaches are partly financed by the team itself, especially in villages with young churches or in new mission fields. This concerns travel costs, accommodation, catering, technical equipment and electricity (generator).

Our vision and our program:

  • We have experienced and believe - God is real. In Jesus Christ he offers us his divine love, forgiveness, peace and a new life in relationship with Him which lasts forever. God's everlasting Word, written in the Bible, is our true message.
  • On many occasions and in many different ways we want to pass on this Good News through music, dance, drama, personal testimonies and preaching in our home country Uganda and beyond its borders.
  • There are many different opportunities: private meetings, church festivals, celebrations on municipal or national levels, church services, weddings, concerts, open air rallies in towns and villages, meetings in schools and companies as well as big evangelistic campaigns, which mainly take place in football stadiums and reach out to thousands.
  • These outreaches are usually carried out in cooperation with different local churches and / or organisations, like the Anglican Church, Evangelistic Enterprise, Scripture Union, Life Ministry, World Vision, as well as on an interdenominational level.
  • Our aim is, to invite people to a committed life in relationship with the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and to encourage believers to develop a new understanding of the great commission.

Our music:

  • African Gospel music is known for its own rhythm. It reflects the cultural variety of the tribes and their traditions.
  • Our program contains traditional songs and dances from different tribes, cultures and languages as well as self composed songs. The choreographic arrangement conveys and underlines the message of the songs in a lively and impressive way. The songs are accompanied by African instruments, mainly drums, and the audience is encouraged to participate.
  • The lyrics, often Bible verses, inspire and encourage the listeners to join the praises of God .
  • Familiar hymns and choruses are also part of our repertoire.

Outreaches in Africa:

  • The people of a village or city are invited to the program on loud speakers, which play gospel music.
  • Songs and dances create a relaxed atmosphere and involve the audience in the program.
  • The messages passed on through music, testimonies and biblical teachings touch people's hearts.
  • The programs take place in the late afternoon and can last for 2-3 hours.
  • In the morning hours seminars take place.
